Let’s talk makeup, shall we? I honestly have been keeping things super natural and laid-back since having Sam. I mean, I’m a new mom, and am sleeping as muuuuch as I possibly can (although, how can I possibly really sleep when he sleeps, as everyone recommends? I just want to stare at him all day long!) meaning I’m not slathering on the makeup. Plus, we’ve been spending most days (okay, like every day) hanging around our house, so there hasn’t been a reason to get all made up. So today, I felt like playing around with my makeup and making myself look (and feel!) fabulous. Thus, I bring you my favorite makeup tutorial: The smoky eye.
A good smoky eye is key, is my motto. It’s my go-to for date night/ going out makeup and if I have to choose one part of my face to play up, it is my eyes. Always. The fun part of this particular smoky eye makeup tutorial is that it is made up entirely of drugstore mascara, eyeshadow, and foundation. Because I like to share makeup that I love that is not only great, but also affordable. Because that can be a rare find, I know. But guess what? I’ve found it. Rimmel London makes a mean mascara and amazing eyeshadows that I have been using for years. You can literally find Rimmel at any drugstore, Walmart, or the like. Okay, on to the tutorial!
Products used:
Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation
Rimmel Retro Glam Mascara
Rimmel trio eyeshadow in “Orion”
cream eyeliner
First, apply foundation and whatever other face makeup you like. Now on to the eyes…
1. Apply the medium brown shade all over your lids.
2. With the very lightest color, apply to your brow bone, just under your eyebrows. This creates definition.
3. Take the darkest brown shade and apply only to the creases of your eyelids.
4. Line your eyes with whatever eyeliner you have. I’m really into cream eyeliners lately and I always use black and only do the top.
5. Apply two coats of mascara, again in the blackest black they have. This one is Rimmel Retro Glam Mascara in “Carbon Black.”
And voila! You’ve got a hot smoky eye and you’re ready for a night out on the town! Or, in my case, for dinner, at home with your little family. :) You’re welcome, husband.

I would also love to try a subtle smoky eye. I feel like it usually looks weird on me, but I think I have to use lighter shadow.

To add to my above comment, I have never been able to do a smoky eye or any kind of ‘EYE’ look. This really helped and the Rimmel eye shadow looks like a great neutral color.
