With Mother’s Day fast approaching, and this being my second year as a mother, I’ve been reflecting a lot recently on the moment I realized I was a mom. I found out I was pregnant when I was already 9 weeks along. I know, I remember feeling like I should have gone on that show “I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant.” Ha! ;) My first thoughts when the test read “positive” was HOLY CRAP. This is not real. The initial disbelief and shock was quickly followed by happy tears and excitement, of course. But I remember it taking a while for me to really feel like I was a mother. Sure, I knew I was pregnant, and I was growing this baby inside of me, but honestly it hadn’t yet sunk in.
The moment I realized I was a mom for the first time was when I felt those little baby kicks. All of a sudden, this tiny creature that was living inside of me, whose little bean shape we had seen and whose small but mighty heartbeat we had heard, took on a whole new life. All of a sudden, I became incredibly aware that I was a part of something important. I became aware that my body was being occupied by another. And those kicks that we shared from then on, they were his and mine alone. And it was with those very first tiny kicks that I felt, for the first time, like a mom.
In that instant, I remember feeling a little part of my heart was being shared by another, and I knew it would be like that forever. I was instantly aware that a piece of my heart will always belong to another, as long as I live. And it’s the best feeling in the entire world.
The year I lost my mom, Mother’s Day was a dreaded holiday. That was the toughest season of my life. And then, a mere 7 months later, I found out I was pregnant, and it was the most bittersweet I have ever felt. At once, joy for this new life and yet despair because my mom would never know him. Needless to say, Mother’s Day now means something special to me again. It will always be a day that I think of my own mom and feel her missed presence more than ever, but thanks to my little one, it holds happiness in it also. And I know without a shadow of a doubt, that my angel mama will be celebrating with us.

My favorite Mothers day was when my baby girl woke up early and made me breakfast all by herself, with nobody else awake.
My favorite memory of Mother’s Day would be the year my kids all cooked a surprise meal for me and wouldn’t let me lift a finger all day long. It was so sweet!

I love following your blog! Anyways my first Mother’s Day was actually celebrated before my son was born it was the first day he ever got the hiccups. For me that was the best gift ever because we had tried for over a year with no luck and the turned to fertility. And even though they said I was pregnant I just couldn’t really believe that they could be right. We had just had so many negatives in the past and then on mother day as we were sitting around Mother’s Day dinner for my mom, my son hiccuped for the very first time and I cried so hard. I truly believe that his gift to me was telling me that he really was inside my growing belly and that he love me already and to keep being strong.
my favorite mothers day memory is when we went to the spa and had a day for ourselves.
My favorite Mother’s Day moment was the time I took my mother downtown Chicago to eat at Giaradano’s Pizza. She really enjoyed herself.

My fav mother’s day memory was the 1st time I was able to afford to surprise my own mother with flowers for mother’s day. I was 11 and had some money from a yard sale that I put on all by myself. I had enough money to sneak and order her one long stemmed red rose delivered for mother’s day. She was so shocked and happy when it was delivered that she cried. :D

My favorite Mother’s Day memory is about my son when he was 9. He was a thrifty child, saving every penny and I expected the usual home made card. Instead he used his savings to buy me a lighted make up mirror. He has grown up to be incredibly thrifty and yet very generous. I’m so proud of him.

My wife says her favorite Mother’s Day memory was celebrating that special day for the first time
I had a very high risk pregnancy so I didn’t count the mother’s day I was pregnant as being a mom, but when I first held my perfect but tiny baby girl I knew without a doubt that I was now in the mom club. My very best mothers day is every one since. :D They are all perfect.

My first born was sweet enough to be born the day before Mother’s Day. That first Mother’s Day was and always will be my favorite. Drunk with the wonder of a new baby – she was so beautiful and I was so happy.
