I have always loved Valentine’s Day. My parents were engaged on the holiday, and one of my favorite stories is the one my mom would tell each year about how my dad had picked her up from her job at a jewelry store in the mall and couldn’t wait any longer and proposed to her right there, in the parking lot, in his old Camarro. She would always say it the same way, with an eye roll and a “How romantic, right?!” But I always found it to be terribly romantic, much more than she did at the time. ;)
Valentine’s Day is special to me. There’s just something about celebrating love- I mean, yes, we can and should celebrate it every day, but most of us could use an extra friendly reminder/excuse, OKAY?! Zack and I always give each other something, a hand written card, flowers, chocolates. Something small but meaningful, to us. And I love the excuse to wear something pretty- even if we’re just staying in and having a dinner at home after the kids are in bed (our plans this year)!
