Hey guys! Today I wanted to share a few of my tips on how to stay healthy while traveling. We just got back from our first little trip as a family, and I can attest that it is definitely more of a challenge traveling with a wee one than it was before! But also way more fun! ;) You just have to make sure to do things earlier in the day, because once bedtime rolls around you’re pretty much stuck in the hotel room. Which, I’m not complaining about, especially since our view of the city was so beautiful and we just kicked back and watched the lights and airplanes flying in. But I guess our days of late night galavanting and adventuring are over, at least for a little while. Anyway, I’m getting sidetracked. Let’s get into those healthy travel tips, shall we!
BRING SNACKS
Nuts, bars, fruit- anything to satisfy the munchies or fill you up without making you resort to greasy fast food. I love me some Lärabars- be sure to keep reading to the end of this post for your chance to win a box for yourself!
STAY HYDRATED
With the hustle and bustle of travel, it can be easy to forget even the most simply thing: To drink water! Always have a bottle of H2O with you and be sure to drink it- often! Coconut water is super hydrating, too. It’s definitely an acquired taste- I didn’t like it at first- but it’s grown on me!
USE THE HOTEL GYM
There is a gym in many hotels- take advantage of it!
WORK OUT IN YOUR ROOM
If there’s no gym at your hotel, or if you’re crunched for time, just set up a little station in your own room! I find yoga is the best for a hotel room workout, as you don’t need much room and don’t need any equipment! I just use a towel as a yoga mat. :)
WALK
Walk around this new place you’re visiting and explore! The best way to see a foreign place is to just get out and start walking! Chances are you’ll stumble upon some neat off-the-beaten-path places, and you’ll get a great workout in, to boot!
RESEARCH RESTAURANTS AHEAD OF TIME
You can read menus and reviews ahead of time and plan accordingly. Yay for Yelp.
POOL
Swimming is one of the best workouts for the total body, plus it’s fun! It’s a great way to enjoy being healthy with the whole family, too!
TAKE THE STAIRS
So we stayed on the 17th floor, and we still took the stairs all the way down one day, just for fun and because we knew it would be a good workout. Plus, we didn’t have Sam (Zack’s parents were watching him) so that made it a little easier.

This is exactly how I am! Anywhere I go, I always bring my food { Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks }. Mainly because I have food allergies, but also because once I’m hungry, I’m hungry now, and I don’t want to wait. And if I’m hungry and have to look for food, then I’m more likely to not pick the healthier option. But researching the restaurant ahead of time is the best thing ever!! It makes making that decision so much easier :). Oh and every time I go to the doctor { which has been like 6 times in the past two months } I always make whoever is with me take the stares, they love to hate me :)
YES!!! You just never know when you’ll be HANGRY and you don’t want to upset those around you ;) I always need snacks with me, too!

I love love love LOVE Larabars! I have one almost every morning as my light pre-workout breakfast/snack. Also, I’m dying over your “pay extra for the avocado” tank. Story of my life!

I always pack snacks when I go on long trips! I get really cranky if I’m hungry and no one wants that ;) I have even gotten into the habit of bringing a snack when I know I’m going to be out and about for a long period of time.. Kinda lame but I know what I need! ;)

I am always so so bad about working out on vacation, unless i’m in europe and then i walk everywhere! but seriously I need to up my game on that!

I travel fairly regularly for work and I swear by hotel gyms and bringing your own snacks. I usually will stop at a local Walmart, load up on what I like to snack on, and just stick it in the rental car or my purse. It’s a great way to hold yourself accountable without putting a ton of pressure on yourself to one, remember to pack that stuff, and two, eat right!
LOVE that idea of stopping at a local walmart or grocery store and loading up on good snacks!

LOVE that tank!! Yes, yes I will buy extra for the avocado. I tried to do the stairs on our last vacation. The stairs were outside and the heat and humidity were KILLING me. I’m used to sweating in a nice air conditioning gym :)
Haha it is definitely much more pleasant sweating in A/C! ;)
