On wednesday, Zack and I went up to my parents’ house to stay with them for a few days. They live about 45 min away, so we treat it like a mini-vacay whenever we get to stay with them (which, if my mom had it her way, would be every week… if I had it my way, it would be, too!!) That’s the one most positive part of our jobs- the schedule is so opposite of “normal” schedules, that we get to do fun stuff like go on mini vacays in the middle of the week! And since my parents are living the retired life, it works for everyone. Yay!
My gorge mum and I, walking the dog:
We went kayaking for the first time, with my parent’s new kayaks:
Soooo much fun!
Thursday was my daddio’s birthday:
I baked a cake, using my brand new Kitchen Aid mixer for the very first time!! Mmmmmm white cake with homemade strawberry buttercream frosting. TO DIE FOR.
Okay, story time. A few things you need to know first: One, I am DEATHLY afraid of snakes. I am trying to get better, I promise. For example, when we went to the zoo on our honeymoon, I spent a good deal of time just staring at the snakes in the reptile house. Let me tell you, that is a big step for moi. Two, my parents moved to an area of California that is VERY dry and a liiiiiittle bit country, and is home to such animals as coyotes, hawks, jackrabbits, and -you guessed it- SNAKES. Namely, rattlesnakes. (Cue girly scream.) So. When we go on said walks with the dog, or basically any time we go outside period, we are ALWAYS aware, and on the look out for anything that slithers (or rattles…) So. You can imagine our delight when we were sitting out on the deck, relaxing and enjoying the outdoor shower* and the sunshine, when we noticed something across the street, by the large field that faces my parents’ property- I told you this was in the boonies. Zack and my dad both got their respective guns (Exhibits A, B and C) (Oh my- I swear we are NOT hicks… you’d have a gun too if you lived here!!) and we went to investigate. Now, I must say, I’m quite proud of myself. I went right out to the street to get a closer look at this thing.
Huh… what’s that thing lying in the street over there…….
((Sorry.))
Don’t worry, it wasn’t a rattler after all. Just a little harmless gopher snake. Well, okay, it was HUGE. But still, harmless nonetheless. (Thank the Lord!)
*My dad got the awesome idea to install an outdoor shower. Seems kind of strange at first, but when you don’t have a pool, and it’s 100 degrees outside, and you just need to cool off, it does just the trick. LOVE it.
So that was our adventure for the week. Hopefully the weekend proves to be dull and boring. We’ll need it after all that.
