Sunday was quite the day. We woke up at an ungodly hour (okay it was 6:45, but guys that is earlyyyyy around these parts), and miraculously got the baby and ourselves ready and out the door by 7:30 to make it to our very first ever 5k race! And it was SO MUCH FUN. We went with Zack’s parents, who are running champs and always are doing various races. We ran the entire 5k with baby Sam in tow, and I can finally say that I’ve felt the “runner’s high” that I’ve always heard about! That last stretch, with the finish line in sight, I literally felt like we were floating to it. SO crazy awesome.
And for the record, if you’re a beginner or have never run before, I highly recommend doing a Couch to 5k program! You can get a free app for your phone and just follow along. It is life changing, and it’s the only thing that got us to actually run and be able to stick with it! I wrote more about our experience with C25K here, here and here!
I’m hooked! It’s official! And I couldn’t be more pleased about it!
When we got home, we debated heading to church, since we could have made it. Buuuuut the baby needed to sleep and we were pretty exhausted, so we streamed Hillsong in our living room and it was SUCH a good message. That’s two weeks in a row. God is speaking to me. There’s no other way to put it. This sermon was all about finding the joy in our trials. [you can watch it here if you’d like!] Like, seriously? SERIOUSLY?? Right. To. Me. I took some things away that I want to write down so I don’t forget…
See the joy in the tests and the trials. God has a plan. To give you endurance. So you may be whole and sound and ultimately lack nothing. If we didn’t have opposition, we wouldn’t have the fortitude to be all God wants us to be. God is working in us. The testing of our faith will result in endurance.
You can’t impress God. He’s already impressed.
Amen and amen.
Are you a runner?
Any good quotes you’ve heard lately?

p.s. A couple articles I’ve written, if you care to read! :)
– Throw Away the Parenting Books. Above all, trust your instincts. Because chances are, they are far more reliable than any book ever could be.
– Reasons I’m Hesitant to Have Another Baby. Now, to throw another baby in the mix would bring me right back to square one. And I’m not sure if I’m ready for that.
Okay, done for real this time.

Running races is addicting! We just ran our 50th race over the weekend and it’s still so much fun! :) Great job!
Katie
I always see that you two are running races- so fun! How amazing that you’ve done 50, too! what a huge accomplishment!! I am definitely addicted. :)

Congrats! Running a 5K is an awesome accomplishment.
I’m not a natural runner by any stretch, but I love races. I ran (the whole way) my first 5K last year, and this past weekend I completed (run+walk, since I hadn’t trained) my first 10K! I’m still sore… ;)
Totally get what you mean about that final stretch!
Katie
It was SO much fun! Awesome that you did your first 10k! That’s HUGE!!! There is no way I could do that yet, but it’s a goal, for sure!

Congrats on the 5k! I’m definitely not a runner (unless I’m being chased), but I’ve considered trying one of those Couch to 5k programs.
Katie
GIRL. I was never a runner either. Like, I was sooooo bad at it. But the Couch to 5k was literally exactly what I needed and now I actually enjoy it! CRAZY!

You are so right about them being addicting! I’ve done several and I am now training for a 10k, 12 just seemed like too much. haha
