Now that it’s fall, it’s time to start talking about everyone’s favorite part of this season: the fashion. Chunky knits, thick scarves, cute boots, it’s all a part of the very best season for fashion, if you ask me. I’m slowly pulling my fall wardrobe out of storage (a.k.a. the depths of my closet) and getting them ready to brave the elements. The first step of this process is to give these clothes that haven’t seen the light of day in about a year a nice thorough cleaning with my trusty Tide, Downy and Bounce. Gotta get them looking like new so they’re ready to be worn again! ;) This way they’re fresh, clean and ready to get through another fall season! I love how a simple wash can breathe new life back into clothes, don’t you?
Today I thought it’d be fun to share some of my favorite fall staples with you!
Plaids. I loooove a good plaid for fall. On a lazy day where I don’t want to think too much about my outfit, I just throw on my trusty flannel shirt and some thick black leggings or dark skinny jeans, and I’m out the door! Comfy, easy and cute all in one. I’ll take it!
Chunky knits. It’s finally time to break out the snuggly sweaters again! YAY.
Scarves. My favorite way to add interest to any outfit that may be lacking, is to just throw on a scarf. It’s très français, too! Oui oui!
Boots and cute flats. Basically, one of the most exciting parts of fall is that we can bust out our boots finally (besides ankle boots, those are good year-round, I say) and the decidedly-autumnal leopard flats and oxfords! Hooray!
Leggings. Of all different patterns and textures. Leggings, basically all day err day, ya feel me?
Okay. Summer, I love you, but fall, I’m ready to embrace you now. Just waiting for those temps to drop below 90. ;)

Love all of these! The thing I really don’t have are any flannels (which is a travesty – I know). I need to stock up this year! Let me know if you find any new must have flannels this year!
Katie
I will definitely let you know if I find any great flannels this year! I own SO MANY- like way more than I pictured above haha ;)

I was just thinking about this the other day at work { which is the worst haha I’m suppose to be saving my pay check for my Personal Trainer Certification, not thinking about what I can spend it on }. I’m so ready for the California weather to finally cool off! At least it’s cool in the mornings :)
Katie
Haha I always think of what I can spend my money on- it’s terrible! ;) And yessss I’m so glad it’s cool in the mornings. That’s the best!

I’ve been on a mission to find some cute leapord flats that I love. I’ve seen some around, but none that I love. I’m really liking the ones you’re showing here! I didn’t see those at the Target I was at yesterday (because you know I looked!), but I’ll have to go check out the other one near us to see if they’re there. And you can’t beat $15 for them! ;) Great stuff here. Love chunky sweaters, leggings, and scarves for fall!
Katie
I definitely recommend Target for the leopard flats! I love mine :) And you really can’t beat the price! If you can’t find in store, you could order online! It’s free shipping if you have a red card- just sayin’! ;)

So fun! Fall fashion is my favorite “fashion”! These are my essentials too! I’d add knee length skirts (totally in fashion this season which is SO exciting!) and thick tights!
Katie
LOVE! Thick tights and midi skirts are definitely must haves!

sarah
i’m with you on the scarves. i started a seriously collection last fall and hope to add more now that we are getting cooler weather!
Katie
One can NEVER have too many scarves! :)

I love your look! I don’t have any flannels though! I have bought several and end up returning them because my hubby says they make me look like a farmer. Any tips on how to avoid that?
Katie
Awww I’m sure you look adorable in the flannels! Men just don’t get it sometimes. ;) I’ll definitely be including plaid shirts in my outfits to come, so look out for different ways to style them! But off the top of my head, I love just tying one around the waist, or wear one open over a cute little fit and flare black dress, pair with a high waisted skirt to add a feminine touch, wear with skinny black jeans and roll the sleeves up…

I need to invest in some flannels/plaids, just trying to find what I love best. Scarves, scarves, and scarves are my fall essential! And of course sweaters and boots, but I LOVE scarves! Where did you get that red scarf on the far right in that picture?
Katie
YES to scarves!!! Can never have too many! The red scarf is from a random street vendor in Paris! I found some identical ones on Amazon though: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FL1WJOS/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00FL1WJOS&linkCode=as2&tag=katiedidwhat-20&linkId=UP46LGC4OVFPSMOT

I own just one plaid shirt so I think I’m justified in buying at least another one! I see you have an aqua chunky knit, I would love a jumper in this colour. Great list!
Katie
Thanks girl! And yes, multiple plaid shirts are a must! And it’s my favorite color, so I knew I needed it in a sweater! I found this one at h&m :)

Fall essentials for me? Boots and scarves are up there at the top. Smartwool socks. Cozy sweatshirts and yoga pants for lounging. Oh, and let’s not forget the allergy meds for ragweed season! Ugh! Although this year I tried a neuro-stim treatment that is supposed to be a holistic approach to curing allergies. The next few days will tell if it actually works.
Katie
Hmmm never heard of neuro-stim treatment- sounds interesting! Good luck with it, girl! :) I hope it works!

My fall essentials would have to be: boots and a warm scarf.
If I could live in leggings, I probably would. I know a lot of people disagree on this, but they are so comfy! I love wearing them on casual days where I am just lounging around and relaxing.
I really like chunky knits for the fall as well. They are just so warm and comforting to wear. And where did you get that fur-like scarf? It’s so cute and I think the texture would really make an outfit interesting.
Katie
I basically do live in leggings once it gets cold, so I can relate! And I 100% agree- if worn properly, they are perfect. I found the faux fur scarf at Forever 21 a few years ago- stores like F21 and h&m always come out with new variations each year, so I’d keep my eyes peeled! :)
