Zack and I just celebrated our TWO YEAR wedding anniversary on May 20th! Whattt, that’s crazy talk. To celebrate, I’ve decided to share pictures from the wedding and the days leading up to it, since I wasn’t the best blogger when it was actually happening and haven’t shared many of those pictures here. I know, bad Katie.
So. Let’s get started, shall we? I suppose a good place to start would be how we met. We met at The Old Spaghetti Factory, where we both worked. He was the busser and I was the cute little waitress fresh from my study abroad adventures in Paris. He wooed me with little presents and every chance he got to talk to me while we were working, he was all over. We found out we were neighbors, and went on a few cute bike ride/ sandwich shop dates until we finally realized that we were meant to be together forever. Well, okay, if you ask him, he knew the first time he saw me, but I took a little bit more time to convince. I’d dated so many boys before, I had to be sure he was the one. And, boy, I couldn’t be more sure now.
On to the engagement. I’ll share what I wrote in my own journal when it happened, so that you get the in-the-moment feelings and all that jazz. I still smile thinking about that day, and I hope you do, too.
So. I went on a family reunion for a week with my aunt, uncle and cousins (my parents didn’t go). I got back from that on August 6, 2010 and Zack was at my house to greet me. He had a bunch of stuff wrapped up around the house, and leads me to tell me what to unwrap first. He leads me to the sliding glass door which had a bit of wrapping paper around the handle. It had been broken, and he fixed it! And he wrapped it, and that was really cute. Then there was a frame hanging on the wall that he had taped wrapping paper on, and it was this gorgeous black and white picture of Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s (aka my idol). It was really sweet, he knows me way too well.
Also, he had a TV stand wrapped up. He couldn’t really hide that very well because it’s like, “hmm I wonder what the TV’s sitting on.” But it was really cool, he had even taken work off that morning and previous night to finish it. He got it from Ikea, so you know, he had to put it together, since you have to assemble anything you get from Ikea.
And then, he sat me down on the couch and brought out more presents. There was a coffee table book that he said I couldn’t open yet, but I could unwrap. So I unwrapped it, and it is titled “How to Style Your Dream Wedding.” Then he told me all of these really sweet things and I started getting really excited (obviously) and he gave me two dozen pink and red roses and he told me, “Okay, open the book.” When I open it, hanging on a little piece of dental floss (which was perfect because I’m obsessed with flossing) is a diamond ring! And I was like “OMG yes, yes, YES!” before he even asked me. Then he asked properly and I was like “Of course!” So after being gone a week with my family I guess he realized he didn’t want to live without me. ;)

Such a cute proposal!
I’ve been following your blog now for a few days, so I’ve been a bit of a lurker, but I had to comment on this one.
Your husband sounds so sweet! & Happy Anniversary!
I just got engaged on March 9th (the day before my birthday). He pulled me up on stage during a show we were attending and invited the entire family. I blogged the story, but it’s super long: http://mailboxjourney.com/2013/03/12/the-proposal/

Sweet story! Sergio and I were only dating around 5 months when he decided to propose. He had asked my dad the weekend before he proposed to me and my dad totally spilled the beans and told me before Sergio even asked! Oops. We’re not good at secrets. Sergio and I had a nice evening planned on a Saturday night, but I forgot it was my best friend’s birthday party, so we changed plans to go with her instead. (My guy REALLY wanted to ask me that night, because he is terrible at keeping secrets, too.) So, while I was straightening my hair and texting my friends who were on the way to our house, he got on one knee in the living room and called me out to help him with something. When I walked out, he gave me the most beautiful proposal, I cried and said yes, and then… George rang the doorbell. Goerge is our friend and was early to show up. Oops. Forever in our minds as interrupting our proposal. :)
You can read about it here.

I love engagement stories. I have been engaged for a while… (okay, like 4 years) but my story is something that feels like a fairytale. I got engaged on the fake Eiffel Tower in Vegas. I think I’ll post my engagement story tomorrow on my blog :)

Awww YES post it! I’d love to read it :) It sounds so cute!

what a sweet story…my engagement story…we had gone out for dinner for my bday to celebrate my 20th (I know I was a baby when we got engaged…but 13 years later this Monday – he is still the best thing in my life!)…he gave me all my bday presents and then after dinner, we went for a walk around the lake, and at one point we stopped – just to have a seat and enjoy the view – and then he got down on one knee…I have no idea what he said to me – but clearly I said yes :)
Katie Did What
Awww I love that!! :) I have no idea what he said to me, either! Isn’t it funny how you kind of black out and get too excited to even remember the minor details?! Haha all I know is it was all very sweet!
