Oh, the beach. I’m already missing it. We will meet again, soon, I’m sure of it. One way or another. This was my traveling outfit from our beach vacation last week. It proved to be just comfy enough to be great for hours in the car, but also just cute enough to make me not feel like a total bum at the rest stop. ;) Because nobody wants to be “that guy.” Also, Zack and I stayed at a resort, so we planned our travel outfits to be our “resort clothes.” I thought this fit the bill, what do you think?
So I have something to tell you, because you are all my friends and need to know new stuff in my life: I am starting to run again! You might remember, Zack and I did a couch to 5k plan a few months ago, but then we just kind of… stopped… running. I have been doing my Tone It Up routines, and have been doing all of my cardio on my stationary bike instead of running. Well, I have decided I want to incorporate running, also! Something about getting outside and moving is just really appealing, especially in the mornings before it starts to get super hot! So. I’m a runner now! Yay! Now to convince Zack to let me get a Garmin and some new running shoes! ;) And don’t even get me started on all of the cute clothing. I mean, that’s incentive right there! #mybirthdayiscomingup #alliwantisworkoutgear
What’s your ideal road trip outfit?
Are you a runner? Any tips for beginning runners?
What’s your fave pair of running shoes?

A good pair of shoes is a must! Find a local running store, they do all these technical things to find you the right shoes for you… I mean, he wants you to get the most out of your runs right? And not get hurt? Total must! Also, check out the free endomondo app! It tracks so much info while you run (with your phone) calories, distance, time… Good luck!!

I’m totally showing Zack this comment. THANK YOU, Mary!!

AHH I hate running BUT I’m super interested in the TIU routines – they’re pretty short so I think I could get through them! (I pass out when I get hot, haha.) Which ones are your favorite? LOVE the outfit! xx
Katie Did What
YES, do them girl. I am obsessedddd. My faves are Malibooty, Love Your Abs and Surfer’s Paradise! But really, I love them all.

Love running!! My husband and I are training for our second 5k together again this summer (last summer was his first race ever. He did couch to 5k to train last summer.)! I would recommend getting good shoes. It’s better for your joints, ankles, feet, all that good stuff to have good shoes. :) My two favorite brands are Nike and Asics, but you have to try them on to see which pair is most comfortable and feels best to you. A local sports store of some kind can definitely answer questions that you have and help you find the right pair. Have fun! Running is my favorite!!
Katie Did What
Ahhh that is so cool, Maria!! GOOD LUCK on your 5k! That’s my goal at the moment :) Is it bad that I just want to get shoes based on how they look?! haha I know the answer to that ;) Thanks, I’ll definitely check out a running store!

I am the worst with road trips! I always pull out my sweats or shorts that are sweats. I’m not one for fancy in the car! Yet again our road trips seem to be hundreds of miles. lol
I’m a runner! I love to run. I recently started running again due to an injury 10 months ago. Even with 10 months off I was able to run a solid 3-4 miles a day (slower) but felt okay. (: If your body was conditioned for your 5K hopefully you can just jump back in and adjust rather quickly! Patience is key and if you are sore you rest. Listening to your body is the biggest thing. It’s also great to have a partner to run with like Zack! Joe runs with me during the week and on the weekends we run separate so he can run faster & farther. He’s a freak of nature. lol Also, I find looking for great places (interesting) to run fun. It’s nice to find a place that is shaded and safe during this time of year. (: We have a local trail that is shady, dog walker, horse riding, biker friendly. Good for people watching. (:
As far as shoes go, I wore Mizuno Wave Riders for 6 years and last year I changed to Nike Pegasus (more cushion). Big deal to swap shoe brands! EEK! Sometimes a new pair of shoes motivates me even more! However, I would suggest going to a running store (i.e. Fleet Feet if you have one?) where a professional can fit you properly. You know where they mark your feet all up and then watch you walk in them and some stores will let you jog outside to test them out.
Good luck! Email me if you want. (:

AMANDA you are seriously amazing. THANK YOU so much for all of that awesome info!!! It’s so exciting that I already have a community here that is so into running! Who knew?! :) Everybody is saying that the right shoes are key, so I will have to get my booty over to a Fleet Feet and get fitted! Your trail sounds so pretty! We have a river trail, but I would never go on it alone, so I’ll have to convince Zack to go on it with me. I’m so excited to be able to call myself a runner! Eek!

I have just picked up running again too! There really is just something about getting to be outside to run. I get all my workout clothes from Old Navy (and the random Nike stuff my hubby buys me). But Old Navy workout gear is good and not expensive.
Anyway, That outfit is adorable. I was totally a bum in my capri leggings and tank. But I wore a hat like that, so that made me look more put together, right?! I need a romper. The end. That will happen – asap!
Katie Did What
YAY, Holly! Twins. My mother-in-law bought me some workout gear from Old Navy for Christmas, and I loooove it! I also love Gap! :) And loooove my Nike, too. Haha yes, some how that hat pulls everything together. It’s like magic.

SO ready to go to the beach!! I would LOVE to get up early & go for a run…but I’m lazy & enjoy cuddling up in bed with my pup, ha! I know I would feel much better if I got up & did it!
Katie Did What
I don’t blame you for wanting to cuddle with your pup- I’d definitely do the same if I had one haha!

Chelsea
Love your outfit!!! Way too cute. Always have to make sure you travel cute, but comfy!! At least I try sometimes lol.
Love my mizunos!!! Just make sure you start out slow, don’t add all the mileage on too fast :)
Katie Did What
I made the mistake of starting out way too fast last year, which resulted in my not being able to walk for a week straight afterward! haha so I definitely learned my lesson there! Slow and steady :) Can’t wait to hopefully be as speedy as you, miss Chelsea!

Katie @ sweet peas
Love the outfit! We recently made an 18 hour roadtrip from Vegas to Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. A maxi skirt and ruffled tank were my favorite for it, because I wasn’t “that guy” at the rest stops, and it was really comfy in the car. I’m definitely going to need to hunt down a cute romper for our next roadtrip! :)
Katie Did What
Maxi skirts are PERFECT for looking totally cute and pulled together, yet being extremely comfy at the same time. Love. And I must say, the only downside of rompers is the bathroom situation haha

I’ve just started running again, too! It’s actually more like jogging at a really slow pace, taking a walk break, and then maybe doing some actual running for like 10 seconds, repeat. But still! I also keep telling myself that if I get new cute running clothes I will be more motivated! I think it makes sense, haha.
Katie Did What
YES new cute running clothes = the ULTIMATE motivation!!! And yay for starting running again!!

You look ADORABLE. I’ve been doing the TIU workouts and meals plans as well. I’ve never heard of Garmin but you should also check out Polar watches. http://www.amazon.com/Polar-Heart-Rate-Monitor-Purple/dp/B005M1P85O/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1371661477&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=poler+watch

I love to run! I just ran my first half marathon last Saturday…it was amazing and soooo fun! I never thought I would be able to run 13.1 miles without stopping, but I did it! My suggestions: 1. Get fit for the right running shoe. Go to a running store and they’ll analyze you and find the perfect one for you. I had shin splints for forever, finally got some new shoes and they went away almost immediately. 2. KT Tape. Google it. If you get injured it’s your new bff. I used it for shin splints, and my IT band started hurting recently so I used it during my half. Saved my life. Or my thigh! 3. Get a Garmin! I personally don’t have one (yet), but am buying one asap! During my half training I just used the Map My Run app on my phone, which was great…until the morning of my half! The starting line was 8 miles up a canyon in the Utah mountains=NO CELL SERVICE! I about died. No service meant it wouldn’t connect to GPS, so I had no idea how fast I was running, what my splits were, etc. It was super annoying and I was sad. I ended up running faster than I planned, which was great! But, I still an getting that Garmin Forerunner 10 immediately! 4. Train on hills! I basically did very little training for my half (the first 7.5 miles were downhill), and at mile 10.5 there was a hill that almost killed me. Literally. My legs were so shot by the top, and I still had 2.5 miles to go! I wanted to die, but I didn’t stop! 5. Get a foam roller and roll roll roll your legs after every run! Saves you from injury.
aaaaand I just wrote a novel. Enjoy :)
Katie Did What
Courtney, thank you SO much for all of your great tips!! :) And CONGRATS on your half! That is so awesome! I am definitely going to get fit for a running shoe! And I’ve heard of/seen KT tape, but never knew what it was for! That’s good to know!! I want a garmin SO badly. Hopefully soon :) I definitely need a foam roller! It’s on my list of things to get. Oh darn, have to go running shopping hehe

Running and I have been good buddies for a long time. I never liked running until 2006 when a friend showed me how to run without feeling like I was going to die. I have done a bunch of road races, but now I do triathlons, which have plenty of running in them. It’s sort of my mission to convert the world to triathlons. So fun! As for shoes, sure go to a good running store and then find your perfect shoe from the BROOKS PURE LINE!!!!! Can’t even say enough good about those shoes. I have tried a lot of different shoes during the years and thought I really liked each pair, but when I got my first pair from the Brooks pure line I knew I had been kidding myself about the other ones. Good luck with the running!
Katie Did What
Hahaha that is so awesome that your friend showed you how to run without feeling like dying! Love it!! Triathlons- whoa. You are hardcore, girl! Annnd Janae of Hungry Runner Girl is always talking about Brooks- guess I will have to check them out! Thanks for the tip! :)

This is the cutest resort wear ever! I love a good romper and adore that you paired this one with a cozy sweater and the cutest hat of all time. Seriously, SO cute Katie!!!!
I’ve actually started doing Tone it Up and MAN! Those workouts getchaa good! I was sore for a few days in the weirdest places after doing one of them three times. I try and pair that with a 5 mile walk/jog, but the walk/jog has been happening pretty infrequently lately. Its just too hot outside!
I don’t blame you on wanting cute workout garb….shopping can motivate you to do just about anything, including working out…especially if you are wearing cute gear:)
xo Ashley
Katie Did What
Ohhh that is so funny that you felt sore in weird places after doing the TIU workouts!! The EXACT same thing happened to me! I was like, whaaattt how did I even work that part of my body out?! Haha that is why I love them SO much. They work everythingggg. Perfection. And shopping is definitely my highest motivation for, well, anything. ;) I know you can relate!

Just found your blog! You are gorgeous! I love running but I can’t last very long without having to walk again. I however LOVE my nike+ shoes and they are a bright neon color which inspires me to wear them even more.

I am so jealous of people that can run! I tried and tried to be a runner-gradually got into it, paced myself, did a lot to be able to run for more than a few minutes without feeling like I would pass out…but I just can’t! I love your sandals; I recently picked some up at Forever 21 that look pretty similar!

I have a 25% tear in my Achilles tendon from running – eek! I think I need to stick to cycling and spinning classes for my cardio!
I love running, but it’s too harsh for me sadly, so I’m always intrigued by those who can run. LOL – Maybe I’m doing it wrong! Haha!
Good luck

That’s awesome you’re getting back to running! I started running about 10 months ago and did my first half marathon a couple weeks ago and it was the greatest feeling! My advice, baby steps. Don’t do too much too fast. Increase your mileage/mins gradually and stretch, stretch, stretch! And hydration (especially during the summer) is so important. I think a lot of my issues in the beginning stemmed from lack of hydration and stretching! Good luck to you…getting those first few miles to feel comfortable and easy are the toughest, just keep at it and it gets better! :) *Also, good shoes, like many others mentioned, are so important!
Katie Did What
Ugh, I know that stretching is super important, and I’m going to try my hardest not to forget that! It’s kind of the easiest thing to skip, you know? But yes, it’s key. Thanks for you awesome tips, Lindsay!!

I love that first picture. You look beautiful! I wish I looked good in rompers but I kind of just look like a big dork.
Girl, good for you sticking with TIU and the stationary bike!
I have been so bad at working out. I have done nothing at all. Zero. I am hoping to get back into it though, starting tomorrow. I got a new Jillian dvd from the library along with a Ballet workout for the lower body. plus I want to start doing TIU again AND I have a Slim in 6 Weeks dvd that is calling my name to be used. And if I didn’t feel like such a dork, I would be outside running. We go to the lakes the second weekend in August and my bday is September 1st so my main goal is to get in decent shape by my birthday and at least somewhat okay shape for the lake. So I have one month! haha. wish me luck! and good luck to you on your running! Ok. babbling ends now.
Katie Did What
I looooove rompers! I’m sure you’d look adorable in one! I understand not feeling motivated! It’s been 100+ degrees here this weekend, and so I haven’t worked out at all. I haaaate it, though, because I LOVE working out!! Ugh, stupid weather! Let me know how you like your new Jillian dvd! Love her!
