Well, I guess I should start documenting this bump journey, eh? Now, I use the term “bump” very loosely because at the moment it doesn’t really exist (unless I eat a big meal, then I call it my “food baby” and Zack reminds me every time, “Um, you have a real baby” and I’m like okay then) but I think it’s important to document this anyway. Because soon enough there will be a bump, and it’s fun to see the progression. :) I even created a new category for all my baby-related posts. Are you ready for this? It’s called “Baby Did What.” I mean, come on. How cute is that, right? I’m pretty proud of that one.
This past weekend was a neighborhood Oktoberfest party. Our street was even shut down for it and everything. Zack and I were like, “Wait, people actually do things like this? It’s not just something they do in movies?” and then there we were. There was a Biergarten (yeah, but I couldn’t partake, obviously, but that’s okay because I don’t really like beer anyway) and sooooo much food! Bratwurst, a million sides, so many delicious desserts. It was the best. And now all of our neighbors know we’re with child (that’s just too fun to say) and so, yay!
I woke up in the middle of the night and my jaw was killinggggg me. I couldn’t get back to sleep for a very long time, and it was awful. So. Much. Pain. It was aching all day yesterday. Turnes out it’s a thing (TMJ) that happens during pregnancy for some people. You know, one of those lovely things nobody ever tells you about. So that’s nice. And by nice I mean pretty miserable. I have this awesome mouthguard that I’m wearing at night now to make sure I’m not grinding, so yay! I guess this is to make up for never having to have braces? I don’t know.
Have you ever had any issues with grinding and/or TMJ?
If you are/were pregnant, did this happen to you?
Did you celebrate Oktoberfest this past weekend?

I am so glad you are taking pictures of yourself! It will be so nice to look back at them! I haven’t even heard of the TMJ thing. Oh dear oh dear…
May I suggest you buy a maternity pillow as early as you can?! You will love it! You can also use big pillows to put between your legs for a while…
And if you are curious what a day looks like with a baby…

Gir, I have seen that suggestion a LOT and am definitey going to be agetting a maternity pillow ASAP!! I think it will probably help with this TMJ thing, too. Can’t hurt, right?!

I love your baby bump and the new ‘baby did what’! You are too cute and I’m so excited to see your bump get bigger each week.

kate
love “baby did what”..too cute! i’m sure you’ll be happy you did the bump progress pics even if there isn’t really a bump to speak of right now! ;)

you are just so tiny…!!! and i have issues with TMJ and I looked up some exercises to do online- it really helps! I just realized i wasn’t following you on insta- fixed that immediately :)
Katie
I have been like massaging my jaw, and I iced it pretty much all day yesterday- it was REAL bad. Today it’s 100% better, so here’s hoping it stays this way!! p.s. I don’t know why, but I wasn’t following you on insta, either!! FIXED, as well! :)

Sarah
Congratulations!
Katie
Thank youuuu!! :)

I had really bad TMJ due to an overbite and jaw surgery helped to fix it. I wear my retainers at night because I was still having some pain after surgery and I don’t want t take any meds unless necessary. It keeps the jaw relaxed and reduced clenching and grinding. Your “bump” pics are so cute! I just feel like I’m getting thicker and wider without a bump in mine.
Katie
Oh wow. Glad to hear surgery went well!! And your pics are so cute, girl!!! Such an exciting time :)

I LOVE “Baby Did What” – brilliant! And don’t worry – teeth grinding (pregnant or not) is actually really common. I’ve worn a nightguard for years, and I’m so glad I do because I can see on the guard where I’m grinding (you have to replace them every so often because of damage), and I’m just glad I’m not doing that damage to my poor teeth!
Can’t wait to creep on your while you grow a baby in your belly. Not a weird thing to say right? ;)

Aw thanks :) :) Yay for mouthguards!! It may feel silly wearing them, but hey. If they work, then that’s all that matters! And no, that is not weird in the slightest! It’s actually flattering :)

I’ve had TMJ for years, and thankfully my pregnancy hasn’t made it any worse. I slept with a mouth guard for about a year after I found out (2005 i think) but then I just trained myself to not clench or grind at night on my own. I still get lock jaw every now and again though. I hope it’s not something that sticks around for you forever cause it’s no fun! I can’t wait to see how your little baby bump progresses. Yay pregnancy! :)
Katie
I’m so glad I’m not alone on this!! I’m praying it’s just a pregnancy thing and doesn’t still around afterward! I’m loving seeing your bump progression, too! You’re such a cute mama! :)

Casey
I had NO idea TMJ was a preggo thang. I haven’t experienced as much pain as you (ouchie!) but I did have to start wearing something a month or so ago. And I think I had lockjaw or something for a good few weeks in there because big bites of yummy food was extremely painful (little bites for me!). Thankfully it’s mostly gone now. Love your bump pictures too, what fun!! I have just begun to show so I think we’ll start documenting eee! xoxoxo
Katie
Ugh, right?! One of those “joys of pregnancy” nobody EVER talks about! haha. Convenient of them ;) You neeeeed to do some bump pics, too, girl! I wanna seeeee your adorable self!
xo
Kelly
I never had TMJ, however you’ll find a lot of fun things “they don’t tell you” during pregnancy. I hated the most common foods like sandwiches!
Katie
Ughhhh something to look forward to! haha ;) I haven’t had any crazy cravings or any food aversions. Do those come later?
xo
Mariah
Baby Did What is the cutest name!!
Katie
Aww thanks!! I thought it was, too ;)
xo
Allison
So excited for you! And yes, Baby Did What is the cutest label ever for your baby posts! I have to wear a retainer for that same reason when I sleep…although I started grinding the year I had the class from you know where. Haha.
Katie
Haha that’ll do it! I’m being SO mindful of whenever I start to get stressed/grind my teeth now. It’s a challenge, but I WILL make it stop!!
xo
Brittany
Baby Did What?! I LOVE IT. You’ll be glad you took those pictures for sure!
Katie
Haha thanks girl :) And you’re right, I know I will be!

Mandy
TMJ is no joke! I was not pregnant when it happened but I know your pain. Hope it improves!
