White Elephant Gifts

One of our favorite traditions this time of year is the classic White Elephant party!! But finding good White Elephant gifts can be a challenge! Have you ever been to one of these parties? We host one every year with family, and also attend at least one every year with friends. It is such a fun and festive way to enjoy each other’s company, and just let loose, and have FUN with friends and family! Plus, things can get very silly and wild, very quickly, which we love. ;)

If you’ve never been to a White Elephant party, I highly encourage hosting one yourself this year! The concept is simple: You set a dollar amount for the gift everyone will bring, then you wrap your gift, with no name tag on it. You put all the gifts in the middle of the room, and you draw numbers, for however many people are participating. The person who draws the number 1 goes first, and so on. The first person can choose any gift from the pile, opens it in front of everyone, and then the game begins! The next person can either choose to “steal” the open gift or open another. It keeps going like this until the very last gift is wrapped. There are a few rules that will vary depending on the way you choose to play, but how we do it is each gift gets 3 “steals” before it is “dead” and the last person who stole it gets to keep it! So, if there is a veryyyy popular gift, it will be stolen the maximum amount of times, for sure! One other little important rule: you can’t steal a gift you just got stolen from you. So, say Person #1 opens a gift, then the second person steals that gift from them, #1 gets to open another gift, but can’t steal the stolen gift back. Then #3 can choose to either steal from #1 or #2, or open a new gift, and so on. As you can imagine, hilarity ensues and this game can get rowdy, but all in good fun (hopefully haha)!

Okay, now that we know the premise and rules of the game, let’s talk ideas for White Elephant gifts! This is the most important part, after all.
